From April 28 to 30, the Bulgarian city of Varna hosted the 8th W.S.F. World Shotokan Championship, which gathered 1,050 athletes from 21 countries around the world.
Athletes from Akhalkalak led by coach Rafael Darbinyan were also part of the Georgian team participating in the championship, writes akhaltskha.net.
The Georgian team returned with 10 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
Among the medalists was Vladimir Jinisyan, who is from Akhalkalak and scored a bronze medal.
According to coach Rafael Darbinyan, unfortunately, one of the top athletes of Akhalkalak’s sport school became ill and the team left for Varna without him, and this had a negative impact on the results.
