The meeting of the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for Relations with the Russian Federation Zurab Abashidze and Russian Senator Grigory Karasin, scheduled for the spring of 2022, has been postponed. Abashidze himself informed the Georgian media about this.
“It has been postponed, in this situation it is not advisable to hold this meeting,” the diplomat explained. At the same time, he did not specify when the negotiations in the so-called. The Prague format, within which economic and humanitarian issues are discussed, can be continued.
According to the prime minister’s special representative, he last met with Karasin in November 2021, and a few weeks ago he spoke with him on technical issues.
“It seems that this was due to the problem that had developed on Lars (the border crossing on the Georgian-Russian border – ed.). There were great difficulties in connection with the entry of cars from there and the dispatch of goods from here. This was before the war [в Украине]. If I’m not mistaken, problems arose on Lars in the first half of February. Due to the climatic conditions, long queues often form there. Because of the snow, there were very long queues,” Abashidze said.
Journalists also asked how the diplomat evaluates the words Grigory Karasin that Moscow would not go unnoticed by Tbilisi’s refusal to join the anti-Russian sanctions, to which Abashidze replied: “I will give you Karasin’s phone number, call him and ask what he had in mind.”
