First summit of European Union and Gulf countries held in Brussels

The main geopolitical topic of the first summit of the European Union and the countries of the Persian Gulf was the escalating conflict in the Middle East and Israel’s war against the Hamas and Hezbollah organizations. All participants of the meeting agree that the way out of the crisis is the principle of two independent states, Israel and Palestine.

The participants of the meeting also agreed to deepen trade cooperation, jointly fight against global climate change and help strengthen global security. “We cannot realize our economic ambitions without security,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, emphasizing the importance of working together to resolve armed conflicts both in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The Gulf Cooperation Council includes Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait.
