Georgian Parliament passes unanimous statement condemning MEGOBARI Act

The Georgian Parliament adopted a comprehensive statement condemning the Mobilising and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act or the MEGOBARI Act, with an overwhelming 87 votes in favour and no opposition, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.

The Georgian Parliament strongly condemns the U.S. House of Representatives’ adoption of the so-called MEGOBARI Act, which they view as fundamentally flawed, biased, and hostile toward Georgia. The Parliament refutes the Act’s claims of democratic backsliding, obstruction of Euro-Atlantic integration, and inappropriate ties with Russia, China, and Iran, providing extensive factual evidence of Georgia’s democratic progress, commitment to European and NATO integration, and limited relations with Russia due to occupation. They accuse the Act of being driven by ‘deep state’ hostility and double standards, criticising it for ignoring Georgia’s sovereignty and progress, and for unfairly targeting Georgia’s foreign relations.

The Parliament condemns the Act’s unfounded accusations and expresses hope that the new US Administration will weaken the deep state influence, allowing for genuine cooperation and improved Georgia-US relations.
