The Atlantic Council has released its 2022 Global Strategy, which addresses Russia’s aggression against Georgia and the need for practical assistance to Georgia.
The strategy, titled “Breaking Kremlin Aggression Today for Constructive Relations Tomorrow,” says Russia’s conditions on the US and NATO in December 2021 were largely about repairing the Cold War European divide as Putin seeks to stop NATO expansion and force the US leave Europe.
According to the Atlantic Council report, the Kremlin’s list of provocations is long and includes military action, especially in Georgia and Ukraine, and violent border changes, constant cyberattacks, election interference in the United States and many other democracies, assassinations abroad, disinformation campaigns, coup attempts, and support for dictators.
“In order to further strengthen the security of Georgia and once again complicate the plans of the Kremlin General Staff, Washington should deploy American infrastructure (logistics, equipment, airfield) for the use of the US Air Force. This is not enough to create an American base, but it provides the presence of the US Air Force in Georgia. It will also increase interoperability with NATO,” the report says.
