A Russian attack on the city of Poltava in central Ukraine killed two people and damaged a military recruitment centre, the Ukrainian military and regional officials said on Thursday (July 3), Reuters reports.
Regional governor Volodymyr Kohut said at least 47 people were also wounded, while the military reported fires in the military recruitment building and in a nearby residential building.
Russia has stepped up drone and missile attacks on Ukraine in the last month, and has launched some of the biggest attacks since its full-scale invasion that began in February 2022.
Five people were injured, including a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, in a Russian attack on the southern Ukraine port of Odesa overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday (July 3).

Major General Mikhail Gudkov, deputy head of the Russian Navy and a former commander of a marine brigade fighting against Ukraine, has been killed in action, depriving Moscow of one of its most senior officers, the Russian military said on Thursday (July 3).
Gudkov was killed on Wednesday “during combat work in one of the border districts of Kursk region,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
At least 10 other senior Russian commanders have been killed in action or assassinated by Kyiv since the start of the war.
There was no immediate comment from Ukraine, which accused Gudkov and his subordinates of committing various war crimes, something Moscow denied.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have attacked a facility in Russia’s Udmurtia Region, regional Governor Alexander Brechalov said on his Telegram channel, TASS reports.
