Member of the European Parliament Nathalie Loiseau informed that on her initiative the European Parliament can hold a debate on the issue of COP29 to be held in Azerbaijan.
“The protection of the planet is, of course, important, but the holding of the conference in Baku raises serious questions,” Loiseau said.
She reminded that Azerbaijan’s economy depends on hydrocarbons, human rights are massively violated in that country. According to Loiseau, Baku is also carrying out hostile actions against France.
“Furthermore, Baku has not yet made peace with Armenia and is guilty of the ethnic cleansing of 100,000 Armenians,” added the MEP.
US Congressman Frank Pallone also expressed concern that the Government of Azerbaijan was not held accountable for its actions. “They cannot be allowed to use COP29 to restore their reputation,” Pallone said.
