I urge everyone to reconsider their perspective, including from pragmatic considerations, stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to the statements by High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner for enlargement Marta Kos on the situation in Georgia, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
Kobakhidze claims the European Union’s similar approach towards Georgia is driving it in the wrong direction.
“I don’t know what dialogue they are talking about when they, the Deep State themselves made opposition parties request the Parliament for their mandates’ revocation and got them to quit. What dialogue can we talk about after that? You know that they made three opposition parties write withdrawal statements to the Parliament, got them out, and now they’re talking to us about dialogue with those parties. I don’t know how to evaluate this.
Regarding NGOs, some specific forces, the Deep State, are using these NGOs to try to destabilize the situation in Georgia. Everyone has clearly seen that they can no longer organize a revolution. Everyone can see that clearly, but they have only one goal – perhaps to slow down economic growth and so on. Of course, we won’t allow this either.
Therefore, it’s shocking to observe specific individuals concerned that we don’t intend to allow economic growth to be hindered in this country or hatred to be incited. It is even more dramatic when top representatives of the EU bureaucracy do this.
I call on everyone to reconsider their perspective, including from pragmatic considerations. With such a mindset, the European Union is moving in the wrong direction. All of this has resulted in the political crisis within the EU and the economic problems that exist in the EU today. The trends are very negative.
I urge everyone to be fair towards our country, Georgia, the Georgian people, and consequently, the Georgian government, and to focus more on addressing the challenges facing the European Union, both political and economic hardships,” stated the Prime Minister.
High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos issued a joint statement yesterday on the situation in Georgia, reading that the Georgian authorities “are taking further steps away from democratic standards.”
