EU foreign ministers will approve new mission for Armenia


Today, the meeting of EU foreign ministers will be held in Brussels, during which, according to a high-ranking representative, the situation around Armenia will be discussed, it is planned to approve the new EU mission for Armenia, which should contribute to the settlement in the region.

According to the diplomat, the EU is concerned about the events taking place around the Lachin Corridor and it is making efforts to resolve the situation, TASS reports.

The agency reminds that in October 2022 EU foreign ministers agreed to create the first civilian mission to monitor the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They sent 40 EU experts to the Armenian side of the border with Azerbaijan to monitor, analyze and report on the situation in the region. The work of the first mission lasted two months.

A high-ranking EU official said that the foreign ministers of the 27 member states of the Union will also discuss the Ukraine conflict at the meeting, particularly the peace plan presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The EU intends to provide another 500 million euros in military aid to Ukraine.

According to the official, this discussion is necessary, taking into account the fact that February 24, the day of the start of military operations in Ukraine, is approaching.
