Six wounded in shooting in front of Istanbul courthouse, shooters killed

Reuters. Six people, including three police officers, were wounded in an attempted terror attack in front of an Istanbul courthouse on Tuesday (February 6), which resulted in the two shooters being killed in a gun battle, according to authorities.

The shooters, identified as a woman and a man, are believed to be affiliated with the leftist DHKP-C militant group, as stated by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on the social media platform X. They opened fire on a police checkpoint near the central courthouse at 0846 GMT.

“It has been found that the two traitors – named E.Y. and P.B. – who have been neutralized were members of the DHKP/C terrorist organization,” Yerlikaya mentioned.

Turkish officials commonly use initials to refer to suspects or victims in incidents, and they typically use the term “neutralized” to mean killed. Video footage from the Turkish agency IHA shows the alleged assailants dead on the ground.
