President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomes the agreement of Azerbaijan and Armenia to hold their negotiations in Almaty, Kazakhstan for the preparation of a peace treaty between them.
“I welcome the agreement of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia regarding the holding of [their] foreign ministers’ negotiations, on the proposal of the Kazakh side, to prepare the peace treaty between the two countries. It is symbolic that this important event will take place in Almaty, where the historic Almaty Declaration was signed in December 1991, which specified the foundations for the independent development of the CIS countries and established the principles for determining interstate borders,” Tokayev noted.
Besides, he expressed a view that this upcoming meeting will be a practical implementation of Azerbaijani-Armenian agreements and will contribute to the establishment of strong and long-term peace in the South Caucasus.
