It is very dangerous: Zakharova about possibility of Armenia leaving CSTO

Yerevan’s possible withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) should be based on the real needs of the country; this decision does not correspond to the original national interests of Armenia and was prepared somewhere in the European Union. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

During the interview RIA News Zakharova noted that each country has the right to choose with which associations it is better to develop relations, but it should be based on the reality and current needs of the country. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman emphasized that flirting with Western scenarios could be detrimental to security.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that there was nothing bad for Armenia from membership in the association, despite all the fables that the West tried to “feed” the citizens of this country.

The Armenian authorities have announced their intention to withdraw from the CSTO if they do not receive answers to a number of questions raised by Yerevan. One of these issues, according to the Armenian leadership, is the certainty of the border where the organization’s area of responsibility lies. The Russian Foreign Ministry called such statements from Yerevan ultimatums and insulting.

She added that the CSTO has never done anything bad against Armenia. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman noted that “there is no need to hide behind the CSTO to evade responsibility” as the decision on a possible withdrawal will be taken by Yerevan itself. In her view, “flirting” with Western countries is dangerous because “these are security issues”.
