I believe that full normalization of relations and full peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be established soon, the President of Azerbaijan stated in an interview with France 24 in Munich.
According to Ilham Aliyev, the historic agreements reached on August 8 at the White House between Yerevan and Baku mean that the conflict has ended.
“We have entered a period of peace that, I hope, will last forever. More than six months have already passed, and the situation on the border with Armenia is very calm. There are no exchanges of fire, no casualties, no wounded,” Aliyev continued.
He recalled that restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan have been lifted.
“We have also begun supplying petroleum products to Armenia, which essentially marks the beginning of our trade relations. Thus, we see that we have already achieved peace,” the President of Azerbaijan noted.
He added that several formal steps remain on the path to the final signing of a peace agreement.
“We are learning to live under peaceful conditions, and it is a very good feeling,” Aliyev emphasized.
At the same time, he once again stated that amendments must be made to Armenia’s Constitution.
“It is necessary to distinguish the normalization of relations from a formal peace agreement, since normalization is already underway,” the official elaborated, expressing hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will succeed in formally achieving peace as early as this year.
Speaking about his meeting with the US Vice President, Aliyev informed that he discussed, among other things, the TRIPP project with JD Vance. He expressed confidence that the initiative will be implemented.
In response to a journalist’s question, Aliyev confirmed that Vance raised the issue of Armenians held in Azerbaijan.
“I presented Baku’s position. That is all,” he added.
