The US Senate adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine

The US Senate passed a resolution supporting Ukraine and calling on President Joe Biden to impose significant sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine. This writes The Hill, reports “European Truth”.

“Today, acting bipartisanly, the United States Senate sent a strong signal to Russia and the world that we support Ukraine,” said Republican Senator Rob Portman.

Democratic Senator Jean Shaheen, who co-authored the resolution with Portman, added that “after voting overwhelmingly in favor of this resolution, the Senate spoke with one voice today.”

“Democrats and Republicans are united and committed to supporting our Ukrainian partners against the Kremlin’s escalating violence and aggression. Putin will greatly miscalculate and feel the full weight of the US Congress if he decides to further invade Ukraine,” Shahin said.

The adoption of the resolution by the Senate, which was co-sponsored by some 40 senators, came after Senate leadership and committee members issued a joint statement saying that if Putin intensifies “his ongoing assault on Ukrainian sovereignty, Russia must be made to pay a heavy price.”
