Residential buildings heavily damaged in southern Israel after reported Iranian strike

Residential buildings in a neighbourhood of southern Israel appeared to have sustained heavy damage following a reported Iranian missile strike on Friday (June 20) morning, eyewitness footage showed, Reuters reports.

According to Israel’s paramedic agency Magen David Adom (MDA), at least six people were injured in an Iranian missile strike on Friday morning in southern Israel, and emergency response teams are now searching for casualties in affected apartment buildings in the area.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed dozens of emergency response personnel inspecting several damaged apartment blocks, most of which appeared to have their windows and balconies blown out.

Reuters was able to locate the footage from building exteriors, nearby buildings and road layout matching to file and satellite images. Reuters was also able to date the footage from file data.

Israel and Iran’s air war entered a second week on Friday and European officials sought to draw Tehran back to the negotiating table after President Donald Trump said any decision on potential U.S. involvement would be made within two weeks.

Israel began attacking Iran last Friday (June 13), saying it aimed to prevent its longtime enemy from developing nuclear weapons. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes on Israel. It says its nuclear programme is peaceful.
