Azerbaijan and Iran resumed cargo transportation across state border

Cargo transportation by all types of vehicles between Azerbaijan and Iran has been resumed, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan stated.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, entry and exit — including transit operations — for cargo transportation by all types of vehicles across the state border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were restored at 10:00 on March 9, 2026.

The previous day, on March 8, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had a telephone conversation.

Pezeshkian thanked Aliyev for his condolences on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and civilians, as well as for his intention to provide humanitarian aid. He stressed that the Nakhijevan strike was not related to Iran and would be investigated.

Ilham Aliyev once again expressed his condolences and noted the need for a thorough investigation of the incident. The parties also discussed the prospects for joint economic projects.
