Iran’s nuclear issue cannot be solved by force: Grossi

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressed that resolving the nuclear issue of a country like Iran is not possible through military means and that negotiation is the only viable path.

In his remarks, he highlighted the different dimensions of Iran’s nuclear program, saying: “The possibility that Iran might have a nuclear weapon and actually possessing one are two different things.”

The IAEA chief added: “I believe the solution is always negotiation. But that did not happen. Now we can only try to make the future a little better.”

Grossi also underlined the need for mutual understanding, saying: “It is my duty to try to understand the concerns of the Iranians.”

Pointing to Iran’s characteristics, he noted: “We should not forget that Iran is a very large country with a serious economy, significant industrial capacity, and considerable technological capabilities. All of this cannot be eliminated through military action.”

The Director General also explained the technical process of building a nuclear weapon: “To build a nuclear weapon, many activities must take place simultaneously. Stockpiling enriched uranium is possible to a certain extent and can be used, but inspectors would quickly detect it.”
