Progress in Armenia-Azerbaijan talks aligns with both Turkey’s and Russia’s interests: Erdogan


On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting. In addition to discussing the conflict in Ukraine, bilateral cooperation, and regional and global issues, the two leaders also addressed the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
 
President Erdoğan expressed hope for continued successful negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.
 
“President Erdoğan hopes that the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will lead to lasting peace, noting that long-term stability in the Caucasus aligns with the shared interests of both Turkey and Russia,” read a statement released following the meeting between Erdoğan and Putin during the SCO summit.
 
The Turkish President also renewed his invitation to President Putin to visit Ankara and stated that he looks forward to welcoming his Russian counterpart to Turkey in the near future.
